Making the Pio Toluene Safe

I’m trying to use the pioreactor as a chemostat with toluene as the “drug”; however, I am aware that not all components are toluene-safe. Aside from the silicone tubing, what other components of the pioreactor would I have to replace? Is there anything I might have missed or not thought about?

Hm, good question. I’ll explain the majority components:

  • The both the interior pump tubing, and exterior tubing are not resistant
  • The vial cap is made from polycarbonate
  • the stirbar is pfte
  • the glassware is borosilicate
  • the steel tubes are SS304 and SS316. If you have metal luer lock hubs on the tubes, they are nickle-plated. If you have the plastic luer lock hubs, they are polypropylene.
  • The clear plastic luer locks are polypropylene.
