Does it worth to substitute microSD card with SSD setup

Hi everyone,

For the ones who are running many worker pioreactors (e.g., 8-12) on the leader. Do you recommend to invest in SSD setup instead of microSD card setup? or do you think an up-to-date raspberry pi model (e.g., raspberry pi 5) would be a sufficient boost for running such a cluster?

Hi @sharknaro

I’m currently working with a cluster that has 9 workers and the leader (leader just its own raspberry pi with no Pioreactor components). The leader is a 4 Model B and I’ve had no noticeable issues. Things are maybe a little slower to respond than when I had a smaller cluster size (not to any degree that negatively impacts things), but I’m using a USB WiFi device to extend my Local Access Point to facilitate this many connections so that may be the bottleneck.

If you are planning to use a Local Access Point, you’ll definitely need a USB WiFi device (the one I have linked worked for me with only minor issues, see here for the help Cam gave me in solving them). I maxed out with 5 workers connected with the native WiFi chip on the 4 Model B, and I don’t expect a 5 would perform much better. Obviously if you are on a WiFi network or using ethernet to connect your workers this is something you can ignore.
