Dosing volumes-- how to keep the volume added and the volume removed to be equal

Hello, according to the system default settings, it adds 0.5 mL first and then removes 1.5 mL. However, I want the inflow and outflow volumes to be consistent. How can I set it up to ensure that the amount of liquid entering and the amount being discharged are the same?

hi @yangnancy678,

We have some notes on this here: Dosing automations | Pioreactor Docs

We run the waste pump a few additional seconds to ensure that it doesn’t overflow. Under perfect operation, this additional waste pumping actually removes 0ml. You can modify this with the waste_removal_multiplier config (but it’s a risk!)

We have tested that this additional waste pumping removed 1 ml.

Hi @yangnancy678,
If 1ml was removed, then your waste tube would have been submerged in your liquid. This is fine, but over the course of the experiment, eventually the liquid level and the waste tube level will converge (since it will only remove liquid above the waste tube level). You can reposition the waste tube before an experiment to line up with the liquid so that no extra media is removed during these additional waste removals. Does that make sense?
