Hi everyone,
I use a bioreactor in my experiments and I would be happy to know if there is an option to add real time reading of GFP?
To know its amount, you need to project light at one wavelength and check how much is reflected at the second wavelength as stated above,
Excitation: 488/9,0
Emission: 510/9,0
Has anyone tried this yet? Can you guide me to the optical sensors I need to add?
Hi @Ben-El,
We haven’t done it internally, so you’re in unknown territory here. A few requirements would be:
- A 5mm LED that sources 488nm (example)
- A 5mm PD that sinks 510nm (example)
- Optical filters to prevent leakage of the source LED into the PD
After a quick google search, I think the hardest part is going to be finding optical filters, 3. Ideally the optical filter(s) are flexible, and could be placed between the vial and vial holder.
However, most optical filters are both i) expensive, and ii) not flexible.
Maybe others have some ideas?

Something like this might work, < $100
I’d maybe try to find some used FITC filters on ebay or something. Something like this might work:
