Hey Cameron,
I saw the online entry to the conference poster on the ME16 that a UVC module for the Pioreactors is in an early development stage. From what I have seen a side-mounted source is used. My two questions to that are 1. Is there an ETA for this? The idea of having a naturally enhanced mutation rate is very appealing. And 2. if you noticed any problems with transmittance of UVC through the glass of the vials.
The UVC module is actually finished. Proof of concept evolutions is what takes time. Additionally in the work additional modules other than the UVC are being prepared along with custom PCB expansion boards. I have not had the time to finish testing all them since ME16. However, early next year the module will hopefully be available and you can anticipate a preprint that described how to use during that time. It would be interesting to know if you have a specific functionality in mind as maybe that can be incorporated in prior to release.
Hey Hanna,
thanks for the quick response! That sounds very promising I would be interested to couple the irradiation together with a PALE ALE or Morbidostat set-up to hopefully increase the amount of mutations and speed up the adaption process.
Best,
Kai
Great. Then no real modification to what is currently implemented will be needed. Hopefully I will update once everything is ready. Otherwise feel free to reach out if something else comes to mind. /Hanna
